Mateo Monk (photo Credit. Alex Macrae @FlowJam 2018)

mATEO MONK

The music of Mateo Monk is beyond classification. It is a synthesis of multiple genres of world roots music, heavily informed by the spontaneous freedom of psychedelic jam culture. Mateo performs solo on the guitar, flute, synthesizer, and melodica, utilizing a looper pedal to create fully-textured rhythms, adorned with virtuosic melodic musings, all seamlessly woven into the song form in real time. It’s a modern spin on the iconic idea of the “one man band”, executed by a one-of-a-kind artist with deep emotional sensibility and dazzling instrumental finesse. Mateo has been performing for 23 years and has worked with many influential artists, including Thievery Corporation, Junior Marvin of Bob Marley and The Wailers, and members of the legendary reggae group Culture.

Mateo has been practicing meditation since 1992 and has been a devotee of Divine Mother Amma Sri Karunamayi since 1999. He recently visited her ashram in Andhra Pradesh, India, attending a three week meditation retreat in her presence, and just returned from a 10 day Maha Shivashakti Yagnam (fire ceremony) with her as well in Atlanta.

The Plate Scrapers

The Plate Scrapers

The Plate Scrapers

The Plate Scrapers originated in 2014 in western Maryland the way any good bluegrass band does: from a bunch of fellers pickin’ around in a circle, surrounded by delicious plates of food, strong libations, and good friends. The traditional spirit of The Plate Scrapers is still innately intact nearly half a decade later, though they have evolved into far more than your average bluegrass band. Through diverse backgrounds and influences ranging from jazz, to hard rock, to funk, the band has taken their music to an eclectic new level.

The Plate Scrapers have released 4 albums, toured the entire east coast and have provided direct support for Larry Keel, Horseshoes and Hand Grenades, Seldom Scene, Hot Buttered Rum, Cornmeal, Keller Williams, Jeff Austin Band and Cabinet.

The Kind Thieves

The Kind Thieves

The Kind Thieves

Hailing from the heart of Appalachia, The Kind Thieves are a musical tour de force that is far greater than simply the sum of its parts. With members originating from all over the Southern West Virginia region, the Thieves pull influences from musical genres spanning from classic rock to funk to bluegrass, wrapped up in a jam-band bow that promises a 100% original and mind-blowing live experience every time they perform. But jam-band isn’t even a box you can put the Thieves into, with heart-wrenching melodies, jaw-dropping harmonies, and songwriting capability far beyond their years, there is no way of knowing which direction they’ll go next, and no musical stone they’ll leave unturned. The Kind Thieves debut record ‘Many A Thief’ was released in 2017 and continues to win new fans with its unforgettable hooks and sweet storytelling sensibilities.

JOEY AND THE WAITRESS BAND

Our goal is to create timeless music. Our first recording is just a small sampling of what is to come. More than a group of musicians, we are friends. Each performance is a celebration. It is not enough to say that we enjoy what we do; it is an honor and a privilege to perform together.
Since forming the band, we have been driven by a sense of destiny and a kind of calm inspired by the knowledge that what we are doing matters. This group of special individuals has evolved from a simple prayer asking for guidance – one prayed on many occasions – now fully answered.
We feel blessed for the life changing experiences we have had. Our hope is that you continue to follow us on our special journey. We look forward to sharing many more songs with you.

DC SUPERSONIC KIRTAN

DC Supersonic Kirtan is a collective kirtan project stemming from the Gaudiya Vaishnava bhakti yoga tradition, and has been an anchor of the DC kirtan scene for years. Their sound is characterized by soulful and ecstatic chanting of ancient Sanskrit mantras, infused with both modern and traditional melodies and some of the most rockin live drumming you will ever experience. DCSK brings the art of kirtan to the masses with traditional Indian devotional instruments played masterfully by a group of kirtaniyas with deep roots in sacred sound.

eeqweqwe.jpg

JARED HALL

"Singing songs about ghosts and dead gods with a little too much poppy falsetto and nowhere near enough fuzz." That's how the Virginia-based band describes their sound.

Loud and heavy, but with dynamic shifts that lead into a world of groove and ambiance. Woodgrove came into being, as did the genre ’Paxil Pop,’ after a long summer of introspection in 2016. After a number of solo shows, Virginia native Jared Hall (guitar/vox) was joined by Max (drums), Logan Leverett (guitar), and Jake Wentzel (bass) to move the band forward in a much heavier and all-encompassing direction. While Hall still plays solo shows with nothing but his suitcase drum, guitar, and voice, the full band has become the prime directive for the group. Basing their entire venture out of the Northern Virginia metro area of DC, the band has had a firsthand view of the changing social landscape. Focusing on a blend of ambience and groove, on polarizing songwriting and introspection, the four-piece welcomed the chaos that was 2017 by trying their best to play music as a coping mechanism.

My BodYoga

My BodYoga

Alice Sevivas

I believe the journey begins when you first become aware that your path is a gift to your own self-discovery and life purpose so you can do your part to raise the vibration on the planet. I'm a Life Purpose Enthusiast, teaching from a heart space as I encourage students to cultivate that silence in the surrender, to find the "Quiet Between The Noise" with an archaeologist approach to digging deep into discovering authentic self.

My curiosity had me dabbling in herbs, oils, meditation and the like at the age of 15 back in the mid-80's. I was determined to find natural ways to heal my body from many years of intense chronic anxiety.  Close to my home town Amherst in a small town in Leverett, Massachusettes I found solace in a Buddhist Peace Pagoda, built in a hope to inspire peace and harmony within the community. The art of focus and stillness in meditation took root in my mind as I healed from intense anxiety that became chronic for many years. Three decades into this lifestyle, the excitement is still alive and I've learned so much with my commitment to always be a student, and understand now, that pain was my greatest teacher. All my research to heal thy self, motivated me to study and train in a plethora of holistic practices which naturally put me onto the path of the Healing Arts practicing as an Integrative Life Coach, Reiki Master, Massage Therapist and Yoga Teacher. Awakening into my soul space and out of my head space with countless teachers who have, and continue to guide, mentor, and influence me on the journey into integration of mind, body and soul has been a gift so that I can be of service to others. Visit our sangha, it started in my home back in 2004, evolved into the studio on the Occoquan River for many years, to now, planted in Woodbridge, Northern VA, close to the Washington DC, Maryland region.

Dr. Amy “Kathryn Colleen” Messegee is an American-born author, composer and artist better known for her foundational work: Purna Asatti, a process and practice that uses connection to self, others and every aspect of your life for managing challenges and accelerating self development. She is a Reiki Master Practitioner and Master Teacher.

Her summer job at 16 was doing scientific research at NASA. Before her 25th birthday she earned her Ph.D in Mathematics and was speaking to conferences on human reasoning and how to make the infinite finite. A hyper-polymath, her career has enjoyed a ride through…

  • academia (as a professor of Mathematics),

  • defense technology (as a Scientist, CTO, and DARPA Program Manager),

  • online media (as founder of a business website and video podcast with a reach of 1.3 million),

  • venture capital (advising VC firms on evaluating technologies and reading the founders for their true intent),

  • private education (as founder of a local network of elite tutors and private instructors),

  • and her current passion: personal development and energy work.

In each of these, the theme is always the same: aggregating seemingly unrelated perspectives to distill a new approach for accelerated results. She has published 7 books, hundreds of articles and papers, dozens of unique art pieces and released 4 albums.

She is known for taking only four students each year but influences and leads thousands around the world in more than 70 countries through speaking, writing, music, art and podcasts. She is travel-proficient in nine languages which she is learning simultaneously so she can live out her dream of traveling the world, speaking at pop up events and aggregating insight on life, the universe and being human.

Christopher Harrington

Christopher Harrington is on a constant mission to share his energy with the world. Christopher was born in The Hague, Netherlands, grew up in Austin, TX, and currently resides in Philadelphia, PA, where he shares his expertise on happiness, health, and strength, primarily with the Wim Hof Method.

In 2014, Christopher spent over a year at the Sivananda Yoga Ashram, where he became a certified Sivananda Vedanta Yoga Teacher. After returning to the city, Christopher felt that there was still something missing. Despite thousands of hours of continued practice, maintaining happiness and health seemed too difficult, he knew there was another way, an easier way. After learning about Wim Hof teaching people with no prior experience to tap into their brain stem in just 4 days, Christopher knew he had to meet the man personally and train with him.

In 2018 Christopher spent 7 days training with Wim Hof in the Spanish Pyrenees, practicing Wim Hof rounds every morning, and after ice bath training finally completed a 15-minute ice bath. Upon returning to regular life, Christopher has been experiencing more happiness than ever, and is determined to share with as may as people as possible, the tools to become happy strong and healthy in a short time.

VOYAGER a.k.a. Kyle O. Street

VOYAGER a.k.a. Kyle O. Street

Originally a local artist from Northern Virginia, VOYAGER left Earth to travel the galaxy in search of psychedelic visions and has spent the past decade exploring nothing but Art itself.

“Art is one of the last frontiers of novelty; the few remaining realms you can go to discover something new. Art can be a portal to a places you wouldn’t normally find in your own world. I create art to transform an environment and offer viewers a playground for the senses; possibly even an opportunity to glimpse something they’ve never seen before. My art holds a space for your mind to interpret abstract shapes and geometric patterns meant to change right before your eyes!”

VOYAGER last appeared in the Washington Capital Area for Catharsis on The Mall 2017. As an event volunteer and member of the Art Team, he helped create the live-stage and offered a fluorescent mural painting performance as everyone danced through the night. This year at FlowJam, VOYAGER will resume work on the “Manifest FlowJam Farm” Mural and unveil at least one new fluorescent mural to be displayed with a color-changing lightshow!

Druzy Daze Jewelry

Druzy Daze Jewelry

Druzy Daze Jewelry

Druzy Daze Jewelry has unique creations that are handmade, wire wrapped pendants, bracelets, rings, and earrings. Now in 2019 begins the creation of wire wrapped sunglasses and crowns!

Meet Kara McNaney, owner of Druzy Daze Jewelry. Her love for gemstones started when she began working as a educational assistant teaching kids how to identify gemstones. As they learned and interacted with the stones they were continuously filled with amazement. Each stone fueled their curiosity and revealed a new world to them. Their energy and love for the stones inspired Kara to create a business of her own, one where she could not only share her passion for creativity but also her knowledge about stones.

Kara began by collecting gemstones and teaching herself how to create jewelry through online tutorials. She practiced with many different styles and after a few months Kara became comfortable enough to start selling custom orders to friends through social media. This experience gave her a good understanding of marketing and business techniques. Sometime after Kara decided she was ready to take the next step and create her own online shop.

DoTERRA Lifestyle

DoTERRA Lifestyle

DoTERRA Lifestyle, Join Our Leaders ACROSS THE GLOBE!

FlowJam’s Founder, Meredith, LOVES working with doTERRA products because of the profound effects they’ve had on her health & happiness, as well as her family’s health. This medicine is the highest and most purest essential oil on the market today, and serves a global community working with farmers on co-impact sourcing. Each bottle of DoTERRA can be tracked to its origins, at www.sourcetoyou.com. The more pure the essential oil, the more powerful the results. Keep in mind, most essential oils available to purchase are not pure. Often, they contain fillers or other elements that dilute and alter the purity, thus diminishing the healthful qualities of the oil (even if they are labeled organic). In order to guarantee that the oils you use are pure, doTERRA and a team of highly skilled professionals formulated a successful testing procedure that qualifies doTERRA oils as uniquely pure and free of contaminants. This quality protocol is called CPTG Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade.®

Each batch of oils is subjected to extensive and rigorous testing that ensures the purity, potency, and consistency of the essential oils. So you can be confident that you're receiving the highest quality essential oils, from plants grown at their origin.
